They are building a metro station close to where I live. To make room for it, an old (114years!) tree had to be torn down. But because people in my neighborhood was so furious about losing this beautiful old tree, there were guards and fences around it 24-7 for over a week.
The tree went down last week though…
What a shame! I can understand that the people in your neighborhood were furious. And still are, probably.
and all while politicians like to hop on the trend and “go green”, but in reality things like this happen.
this is so sad! it always frustrates me when people barge into nature & do what they want.
Sad result, but it was good that the tree had many defenders to speak & fight for it.
114 years… must been a wise tree…
I would be really angry too, these tree was beautiful!
Silly humans,
Metro stations are good, but that was quite an awesome tree. I hope they put the wood to good use? Vilja’s sweater is so cute.
Lins: The wood from the tree is suppose to be made into art by local artist! good idea right?
Yes, a good idea–so the tree will live on in the art! I am not really sentimental about trees, but I can understand how something is so much part of the neighborhood that it’s sad when it’s gone. We have special trees here that have some kind of significance that people try to protect, and then sometimes people attack the trees to make some kind of statement. It’s a wacky world….
